A Kingdom for Keflings

 
A Kingdom for Keflings is a city-building game from 2008 made by NinjaBee. It is a very simple and chill game to play. It was originally made for the Xbox 360, but was ported to Microsoft Windows in 2010. This game was a commercial success for NinjaBee and sold over 600,000 copies by 2011. A Kingdom for Keflings has a cartoonish and colorful art style. NinjaBee made a good choice with this art style because it effectively gives the keflings an adorable feel because you are a giant compared to them. 

You play as giant that has the goal of helping the kelfings build their kingdom. You can play by yourself or up to 3 friends. The giant you play as can be one that the game has given you or you can play as your Xbox avatar to help the keflings. To achieve the goal of building the kingdom, you must harvest materials by either doing it yourself or assigning keflings to harvest it for you. Once you have enough materials, you can build a workshop to construct your buildings. In the workshop, you need to can choose the right item to make in order to construct the building you want. In order to actually make the building, you have bring each item that you made to an area big enough and put them in the right pattern shown in the blueprint. As you progress and make more advanced buildings, you will need to carry more and need more materials. So you will need a heart and a simple house to make more keflings and find tools to upgrade the giant.

White Knuckle Demo

  White Knuckle is a rogue-lite climbing game with elements of horror and puzzles. I played the demo,  but the game come out this year and developed by the indie studio Dark Machine Games. The game is only on PC. This games art style is inspired from retro pixel art like DOOM. The goal of the game is to get as high as you can within the campaign. That means there is a specific height to reach to, but I was not good enough to complete the campaign in the time that I played. Each run is short and different making the replay ability of the game very good.  The main mechanic of the game is grabbing and climbing. Your hands have stamina, so you cannot hold onto one place for very long. Each floor you reach have a different route for you to climb make you have to think fast to find the right route because you do have threat following you.   Fortnite is a free to play battle royale that is available on every platform. This game also has many other game modes like racing, a guitar hero clone and creative mode. This game is a perfect for a game being powered by Unreal Engine. While Fortnite is not the most graphically intense game out there, it is the most recent popular game made by Epic Games, which also created Unreal Engine. The graphical use of Unreal Engine is shown in the shadows and textures that are shown throughout the game and its day night cycle. The power of the engine is also showcased in the creative mode as many of the stylized maps are higher quality versus the giant map that the main game takes place in.
